At the heart of SLO active is our Earth to Ocean giving model, a key way we contribute back into an environment that has already provided us so generously. We are living in a world where as consumers the purchases we make have a great consequence on the environment around us. Unfortunately, the fashion industry has become the second largest global polluter due to the rise of ‘Fast Fashion’ with constant consumer demand for new styles on a seasonal basis. This has led to global environments struggling to keep up with increasingly heightened fashion production.

In response to ‘Fast Fashion’, SLO active focuses on quality over quantity. We use textiles and methods of processing that have our sustainable ethos at the forefront. It is a spirit that is directing us in hope of achieving carbon neutrality by 2021. To help us reach this goal, we are very pleased to announce a partnership with One Tree Planted, a non-profit organisation and environmental charity dedicated to the replanting of trees in deforested areas. By working together, every time a purchase is made at SLO active, one tree will be planted as a result of your action.

In 2017, One Tree Planted started ‘The Guatemala Tree Planting Project’. Between 1990 and 2010, the country lost 23% of its forest cover, luckily it has still been able to preserve its precious ecosystem but, unfortunately, this is becoming increasingly threatened by increased deforestation in recent years. The project, whilst initially focusing on restoring the country’s forest, has extended its reach to include educational and community-based opportunities. This comprises of workshops on agro-forestry and offering financial incentives to locals through tree-planting.

Guatemala is also home to the Hevea Trees, one of the sources for Yulex Pure, the textile behind our Clean Lines Collection. The trees are not only guaranteeing a future for sustainable materials but are also part of a larger agricultural movement providing economic independence to the local indigenous communities. By planting 7,500 trees in 2017, land value was increased by over one million USD with the program expected to grow 2019.

One Tree Planted has released a PDF going further into detail about ‘The Guatemala Tree Planting Project’ that we have linked below that covers the full impact the project has had Economically, Socially and Environmentally.

The organisation has also extended its impact to India, focusing on reforesting areas with fruit trees that will provide a sustainable source of food and additional income for local community members. You can click our ‘India Project’ button below to learn more about this amazing initiative!

The success and perserverance of One Tree Planted excite us all at SLO active and we can’t wait to begin our partnership with an organisation dedicated to preserving our environments and encouraging others to do the same as well.
